Introduction

Samjhauta Nepal is registered as a national NGO on March 2003 under the NGO Registration Act, 2034. It aims to empower marginalized population especially women and the community who have been deprived and discriminated in all grounds of human development with respect to its male counterpart and thereby enabling them to break the vicious cycle of poverty by securing equal participation in the development process ensuring their access to resources, gender equality/equity and social inclusion, improving their health, economic and livelihood status and that they enjoy all their fundamental rights through the local governance.

It is women owned and women managed institution working for community education and economic empowerment keeping women as the primary beneficiary.

Vision

Engage in building different interventions of community education and empowerment through Women and Youth in order to develop strong relationship with and within community and shift the ownership of development to them.

Mission

To create opportunities for Women, Youth, children and marginalized population to develop the skills and resources needed to achieve social, economic, civil, environmental and political justice.

Key Achievements

  1. More than 200,000 women from more than 30 districts in Nepal have received training on functional literacy leading to income generation under different projects
  2. More than 10,000 youth have received educational training on Sexual and Reproductive health, got aligned with Youth Information Center, owned and managed by youth groups in Mahottari, Dhanusha and Bara
  3. 500 women received educational training on Quality of Care of Sexual and Reproductive Health in Saptari and they also established Women Information Center.
  4. Expertise development through the followings:
  • Development of 5 modules- Module 1- Basic Functional Literacy; Module 2- Life Skills; Module 3- Nutrition; Module 4-Towards Entrepreneurship; Module 5- Access to Finance from gender equality and social inclusion perspective
  • Development of Training manuals for each module.
  • Development of modules pre and post test questionnaires for training participants as well as for literacy class participants
  • English translation of all 5 modules
  • Conduction of MTOT for Master Trainers from 20 western districts
  • Success stories collection and publication
  1. More than 30,000 youth were engaged in peace building process and 224 out of them were developed as Local Resource Person
  2. Three youth friendly service delivery centers and 12 youth information centre were established with trained local resources under the project support “Reproductive health Initiative for Youth in Asia” funded by EU/UNFPA Nepal.
  3. 1300 houses were built for marginalized population in Eastern Region of Nepal. They are linked to local microfinance institutions for further income generation program.
  4. Many of the empowered women from rural areas have gained success in local election and have

        become the part of local governance

Ongoing Programs       

              

  1. “Capacity Assessment of Elected Local Leaders to Develop a Meaningful Capacity Development Program Supporting Local Development Process” funded by TAF

The aim of the project is to carry out a baseline assessment in 10 municipalities and 10 rural municipalities to identify constituency priorities, needs and expectations, as well as assess the capacity of elected women representatives. 

 

  1. “Increasing the nutritional knowledge and kitchen gardening capacity of Musahar women through an awareness program and technical training in Lohana, Dhanusha District , Nepal” funded by Canada Fund for Local Initiatives

The project aims to enhance the nutritional knowledge and kitchen gardening skills of 100 Musahar women, which will, in turn, improve the health of their families. The location of the project is Lohana, Janakpur.

  1. “Civil Society and Mutual Accountability Project”: funded by USAID Nepal through FHI 360

The aim of this project is to strengthen the enabling environment for CSOs and media.

To achieve this Samjhauta Nepal is serving as a platform for CSOs existing in Kathmandu to take collaborative action.

  1. “Rooting Out Poverty/Rights and Opportunities for Women in Nepal” funded by Mission East

This project is being implemented in Kalikot district. Under this project Samjhauta Nepal is responsible for development/printing/delivery of 3 modules containing lessons on literacy and numeracy, village banking, gender and social inclusion, women’s right, life skills and entrepreneurship development. It is also responsible for development of class conduction guideline, training manual, training schedule and other training materials and after that conduct TOT for literacy class facilitators, supervisors and project staff

  1. “Gender Justice for Brighter Future” funded by Lakarmissionen, Mission East

The project is being implemented in Humla district. Under this project Samjhauta Nepal is responsible for the development of modules, develop class conduction guideline and all the training materials and conduct TOT for project staff on modules. It is also responsible for the development of training manual on GESI, group management and advocacy.
